ESA World Emission global emissions and air quality monitoring service
World Emission is an applied research project funded by the European Space Agency (ESA) developed within the EO Science for Society branch of the 5th Earth Observation Envelope Programme (EOEP-5).
World Emission aims to provide an enhanced global emission monitoring service by developing top down emissions estimates based on satellite data. These satellite-based estimates relying on robust methodologies will be compared with bottom-up inventories to define related product target requirements in close collaboration with end-user organisations.
End users
World Emission has the mandate to engage and bring together users, stakeholders, and research centres. The project team is connected with a dense network of national reporting agencies, research centres, and municipalities across the globe. The objective of stakeholder engagement is to define technical and service specifications. Stakeholders provide a complementary view of emission reporting needs to develop standard services that can be exploited in different regions. Stakeholders will also help define the long-term strategy towards an ambitious program to globally monitor and quantify the emissions of all the species possible with a temporal and spatial resolution that complements local and regional inventories.
Workshops
Five major events are being organised in the World Emission project
Prior to each event, a survey on data and service needs will be disseminated among engaged stakeholders.
